Stony Brook-based Applied DNA Sciences has gained a partner in its pilot program with the U.S. Department of Defense to provide anti-counterfeiting measures to military equipment.

Connecticut-based microchip distributor SMT Corp. will be joining Applied DNA on an 18-month second phase of the program sponsored by the Defense Logistics Agency to authenticate microchips used in military equipment.

In the first phase, Applied DNA provided its SigNature DNA botanical markers on all new microchips entering the supply chain. Bringing in SMT will allow the SigNature DNA product to be placed on chips already in circulation and provided to SMT’s defense and aerospace customers.

The SigNature DNA product marks microchips, and any other products that require anti-counterfeiting measures, with botanical DNA that can be forensically tested for authenticity.
